This course is for 16-18 year olds who want to develop their IT skills and career opportunities, building self-esteem for employment or education. The course runs every week for 2.5 days and a free bus runs from Exeter and Exmouth for students. Students will study for Level 1 in Persnal and Social Developnment, Level 1 Learning to Learn, First Aid Qualification, Study Skills and Techniques and will have the opportunity to achieve the NCFE Level 1 Award in Podcasting - the UK's first qualification in creating the perfect podcast.
Progression
You can move to a specific Level 1 or Level 2 vocational programme at Bicton, or seek employment. There are lots of opportunities to do another course at Bicton.

The new BTEC Extended Diploma in Environmental Sustainability has been developed in partnership with employers to develop your knowledge and understanding of environmental issues such as climate change, renewable energy, resource efficiency and biodiversity. It will also benefit from delivery in Bicton’s new EaRTH Centre, to be completed early in 2012.
The two year diploma will also build your practical skills, focusing on the steps that need to be taken within industry to minimise environmental impact, thus enhancing your employability skills.
Progression
Successful students who wish to continue in education may progress to a Level 4 qualification such as a Foundation Degree or degree programme in a related subject area, including geography and environmental science.
Career opportunities are available in a wide range of industries, for example as specialists in environmental protection, water pollution control and waste management. The course also equips students for careers in more diverse areas such as facilities management, local authority management and tourism, for which sustainability issues are a key concern.

The BTEC Extended Diploma in Animal Management is aimed at both school leavers and those wishing to pursue a career within the animal care industry and who have a particular interest in zoo animals. This course is the equivalent to 3 A-levels and set within a truly inspirational setting, based at Dartmoor Zoological Park, you will have access to a wide range of exotic animals to support your studies. For example, you will learn about animal behaviour and then leave the classroom and be able to observe different behaviours in action. You will also have the opportunity to carry out work experience at the zoo. This course provides a firm foundation in the broad range of skills required to make an immediate contribution in employment or to continue training at a higher level. You will study eighteen units over the two years of the full time programme.
Progression
