    Programme Aims

    This course is suitable for those who may be interested in teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector. It is at Level 3 or 4 in the National Qualifications Framework and is an introductory qualification that can lead to higher level teaching qualifications at this college.

    Course Details

    This introductory course will give you an opportunity to develop the skills, knowledge, imagination and understanding that you will need If you are interested in teaching/training in post-16 education. It is an ideal introduction to a career in teaching in Post-16 education.

    It is suitable for those who work or want to work as teachers in the lifelong learning sector; technicians and support staff in further and adult education and training.

    It is also suitable for those whose job role involves teaching and training as a smaller part of their job role.



    You will cover:

    Four units of 3 credits will replace the existing content of PTLLS. These will be:

    • Roles and responsibilities in lifelong learning
    • Understanding inclusive learning and teaching in lifelong learning
    • Using inclusive learning and teaching approaches in lifelong learning
    • Assessment in lifelong learning

    Additional units will be available as alternatives and will be confirmed at the start of the course:

    • Facilitate learning and development in groups (new L&D unit at level 3)
    • Facilitate learning and development for individuals (new L&D unit at level 3)
    • Understanding the principles and practices of assessment (TAQA at level 3)
    • Manage learning and development in groups (new L&D unit at level 4)


    Teaching and Assessment

    Teaching and learning methods used will include classroom based group sessions, small group work, discussions, and observations of micro-teaching. You will also deliver your own 15 minute micro-teaching session by the end of the course.


    Entry Requirements

    There are no formal entry requirements but you should be appropriately qualified in the subject area you teach or want to teach (expected to be a minimum of level 3 in your own subject area)

    Have a level 2 English GCSE grade A-C or an equivalent level 2 English/literacy qualification or be prepared to work towards this.

    Be able to read, write and interpret tasks
    Have sufficient time outside of your work commitments, personal commitments and lessons times to undertake assignments and self-directed study.
