    To further develop practical skills to a supervisory level, with an increased level of management knowledge.



    Entry Requirements

    It is essential that your Initial Assessment results show that you are working towards Level 2. You should also have the following:

    •   GCSEs would be an advantage
    •   BTEC Level 2 qualification
    •   A good reference
    •   A suitable work placement (we can help to find you one)
    •   Relevant work experience and knowledge of your chosen industry



    Course Structure

    The Advanced Apprenticeship is based around one of three Level 3 Diploma courses which cover different areas of agriculture, allowing you to specialise in the area most attractive to you.  The programme develops and assesses your ability to take on responsibility and supervisory roles in agricultural enterprises.

    The Advanced Apprenticeship comprises the Diploma, legislative tests and functional skills.

     


    What you will study

    The three areas of specialisation are:

    Livestock Production
    Evidence is based on a specific class of livestock. You will be required to keep records and order supplies, maintain effective working relationships, promote the healthy performance of stock, alongside performing daily routines and stock tasks. 

    Crop Production 
    You will be required to keep records and order supplies, operate tractors and maintain machinery, prepare for planting, promote healthy growth of crops, and harvest and store crops.

    Mixed Farming 
    This is a combination of the above two Diplomas, including: keeping records and ordering supplies, tractor operation, promoting the healthy performance of stock, promoting healthy growth of crops, harvesting and storage of crops, and livestock husbandry from conception to weaning.


    The following functional skills are studied alongside the Diploma:

     

    • Communication (Level 2)

    • Application of Number (Level 2)

    • Information Technology (Level 1)

     

    In addition Emergency First Aid plus one other legislative or nationally recognised occupational test relevant to the industry will be completed.


    Assessment

    Assessments are carried out in the work place on a regular basis through your portfolio of evidence and during your attendance at College.

    Progression

    Successful apprentices may wish to progress to Level 4 or to a full time programme at Bicton College such as the Foundation Degree in Agricultural Management.


    The Advanced Apprenticeship certificate is recognised by the Agricultural Wages Board with its own pay banding, giving craftsman status. Positions of responsibility and/or a supervisory nature are often open to those holding a Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship
