    Programme Aims

    To develop competence, knowledge and skills in a variety of animal management and supervisory activities.


    Entry Requirements

    It is essential that your Initial Assessment results show that you are working towards Level 2. You should also have the following:

    •   A suitable work placement - we can help to find you one
    •   A good reference
    •   BTEC Level 2 qualification

    •   GCSEs at grades A-C would be an advantage

    •   Relevant work experience and knowledge of your chosen industry


    Course Structure

    In addition to your agreed working hours within your placement, you will be required to attend college for weekly blocks during the acaedmic year. This will include an induction week and attendance for assessments where necessary.

    • Application of number (Level 2)
    • Communication (Level 2)
    • First Aid

    Assessment

    Assessment will normally be carried out in the workplace. It will consist of observation of practical skills, checking written work and oral questioning. You will typically collect a portfolio of evidence of performance at work.

     

    Assessment for key skills will be through examination and the completion of a portfolio of evidence.


    Progression

    It may be possible to progress to a full-time programme at Bicton College such as the Foundation Degree in Animal Science Management and Welfare (see our Higher Education prospectus for further details). Positions of a responsible and managerial nature are often open to those holding Level 3 qualifications.
