    Programme Aims

    This course aims to produce skilled and motivated technicians for the plant, agricultural and horticultural machinery industries.


    Entry Requirements

    You will need to have achieved the following:

    •   Initial Assessment results should show that you are working towards Level 2
    •   Relevant work experience and knowledge of your chosen industry
    •   A suitable work placement (we can help to find you one)

     

    In addition, it would be helpful if you have the following:

    •   GCSEs (Grades A–C) or equivalent
    •   A good reference
    •   Level 2 qualification in a related subject


    Course Structure

    This Advanced Apprenticeship includes NVQ Level 3 qualification, technical certificates and functional skills. It concentrates on the use of technology to diagnose and test for problems in advanced machinery systems, to communicate this information and make decisions about repair options. Certification will be gained in First Aid, Abrasive Wheel Regulations and other specialist industry skills.

     


    What you will study

    The content of each programme is applied to the appropriate machinery for Agriculture and Ground Care, within the areas of:
    • Equipment and machinery technology
    • Fault diagnostics
    • Health and safety
    • Hydraulics and electrics
    • Supervisory techniques
    • Testing procedures

    Assessment

    Assessment includes the production of a portfolio of work-based practical assessments, written and oral tests, and evidence provided by work colleagues. Functional skills assignments based on IT, communications and application of number will also be completed.


    Progression

    Advanced Apprentices may progress to a full time programme in a related subject area. Career opportunities may include positions as fitters or service engineers. With further workshop experience, Advanced Apprentices have gone on to manage their own workshop or one within a franchised dealership.
