    This is a highly practical course involving planting care and maintenance of trees and woodlands mainly for the conservation of rural landscapes and the urban environment. You will be expected to work alongside practicing arborists to gain much of your training with occasional block weeks of training being conducted in college with fellow apprentices.

    The programme aims to ensure you are equipped with the skills required to carry out arboricultural/forestry tasks to industry standards.


    Entry Requirements

    It is essential that your Initial Assessment results show that you are working towards Level 1. You should also have the following:


    •   A suitable work placement – we can help to find you one
    •   A good reference GCSEs A–C would be an advantage
    •   Relevant work experience and knowledge of your chosen industry

     


    Course Structure

    This course is delivered mainly in the workplace with some college-based training weeks.

     


    What you will study

    •   All aspects of practical arboriculture at NVQ level 2

    •   Work-based diploma/NVQ
    •   Functional skills
    •   Emergency First Aid
    •   Certificate of competence in the safe use of pesticides and in chainsaw and related operations

     


    Assessment

    Continuous assessment is undertaken throughout the training programme.

    Advanced Apprenticeship, Arboriculturist, Assistant Tree Officer.
