    Programme Aims

    The Level 1 Diploma in Land-Based Studies (Agriculture) is a foundation programme aimed at individuals with an interest in agriculture who may require support in achieving their career aims. The course will provide you with the opportunity to develop knowledge and practical skills in agriculture. This course has a large practical element to it.

     

    This programme has also been designed to improve literacy skills, spoken communication, numeracy, IT, problem solving and teamwork skills.


    Entry Requirements

    Formal qualifications are not required but it is essential that your Initial Assessment results show that you are working towards Entry Level 3. You will also need to demonstrate an interest in the course and a willingness to learn. Entry will be agreed through an interview process.

    Course Structure

    Students on this course will learn through practical instruction, projects, individual and group work, lectures and portfolio building.


    What you will study       

    Units may include:

    • Animal husbandry
    • Developing safe working practice
    • Introduction to crop systems
    • Machinery operations

    You will also work towards nationally recognised qualifications in literacy and functional skills.




    Assessment

    Progress is monitored by continuous assessment, using a variety of methods, including:

    • Written and practical assignments
    • Portfolio evidence

    Progression

    Successful learners may continue onto a Level 2 programme, such as the Level 2 Diploma in Agriculture. Alternatively, learners may look to gain employment in a relevant industry or begin a work-based Apprenticeship.
