The Level 1 Diploma in Land-Based Studies (Horse Care) is a foundation programme aimed at individuals with an interest in horse care who may require support in achieving their career aims. Learners will have the opportunity to develop knowledge and practical skills in horse care alongside the more general skills required to gain employment or to continue training. Time will be split between classroom activties and practical work in the Equine yard. The programme has also been designed to improve literacy skills, spoken communication, numeracy, IT, problem solving and teamwork skills.
Students learn through practical instruction, projects, individual and group work, lectures, portfolio building and work-based learning.

Successful learners may continue on to a Level 2 programme, such as the Diploma in Horse Care or the Diploma in Animal Care. Alternatively, learners may wish to work towards a work-based Apprenticeship or gain employment in a relevant industry.
