Public Services courses have been developed in the Public Services Sector to:
Level 2 qualifications are designed to provide specialist work-related qualifications in a range of sectors. They give learners the knowledge, understanding and skills that they need to prepare for employment. The qualifications also provide career development opportunities for those already in work. On successful completion of the course, learners can progress to or within employment and/or continue their study in the same, or related vocational areas.
Level 3 qualifications are designed to provide highly specialist work-related qualifications in a range of vocational sectors. Giving learners the knowledge, understanding and skills that they need to prepare for employment and/or pursue career development opportunities. On successful completion of the course, learners can progress within employment or on to higher education, degree and professional development programmes.
It is essential that your Initial Assessment results show that you are working at Level 1.
You will also need to have achieved one of the following:
• 4 GCSEs at grades A–D, including English, Maths and Science
• Level 1 qualification
Prior experience of taking part in outdoor adventure activities is desired and a commitment to the participation in outdoor adventure activities is essential. Learners will be expected to have a basic level of fitness and work towards public service fitness requirements.
Level 3
It is essential that your Initial Assessment results show that you are working at Level 2.
You will also need to have achieved one of the following:
• 4 GCSEs at grades A C, including English, Maths and Science
• BTEC Level 2 Diploma
• Level 2 qualification (merit profile)
Prior experience of taking part in outdoor adventure activities is desired and a commitment to the participation in outdoor adventure activities is essential. Learners will be expected to have a basic level of fitness and work towards public service fitness requirements.
The following physical exercise goals apply to both Level 2 and Level 3 and give you a good starting point, we would expect you to join the programme with these basic fitness levels:
1.5km run - to be completed in under 14 minutes
Press ups - 20 press ups in 1 minute
Sit ups - 20 sit ups in 1 minute
Pull ups - 4 pull ups
Swimming - 100 metres front crawl or breast stroke (without stopping, touching the floor or holding onto the sides)
* These basic fitness requirements will be tested during your first week on the uniformed public service courses with the intention of increasing your fitness levels throughout the year.
