Level 2 Certificate for Animal Nursing Assistants

Held at Coombefield Veterinary Hospital, Axminster

This course is suitable for anyone wishing to pursue and develop a career within the Veterinary Nursing industry.

 

Programme Aims
The course will enable students who have not previously achieved the necessary GCSEs to go onto the Diploma
in Veterinary Nursing (DVN) Programme. It also allows the development of fundamental knowledge for those
who wish to work as reception or lay sta5 within a practice.

 

Entry Requirements
The programme is suitable for all students aged 16 years or over. You will not require a work placement, however
we encourage all candidates to seek work experience in a veterinary practice. There are no formal entry
requirements, but applicants must demonstrate that they are working at an appropriate level to be successful on
the programme.

 

Start date: Friday 20th April 2012

End date: Friday 20th July 2013

Venue: Coombefield Veterinary Hospital, Axminster, Devon

 

Held on the following days: Fridays 9.30am-4.30pm in term time. The course will continue on Fridays from September 2012 for 30 weeks.

• Principles of basic animal nursing assistance
• Companion animal anatomy and physiology
• Principles of infection control for animal nursing assistants
• Deliver basic treatments to animals
• Maintain animal accommodation
• Provide feed and water to animals
• Principles of companion animal pharmacy
• Companion animal parasitology and zoonosis
• Companion animal nutrition
• Principles of companion animal anaesthesia and Duid therapy

 

Cost

Aged 16-18 the course is free
Aged 19+ £750 tuition fee and a registration fee of £50 (payment plans can be agreed with the College to
spread the cost)
Additional charges may be made if examination re-sits are required.

 

Assessment

Assessment for most modules is through a combination of practical and written assessments based on the
grading criteria laid down by the awarding body.
The Companion Animal Anatomy and Physiology module is assessed through an externally-set exam taken at
your normal course venue. The time and date will be set by your tutors. The pass mark is 100% but repeat
sittings are allowed if necessary.

 

Progression

Successful students who wish to continue in education may progress to a Level 3 Diploma in Veterinary
Nursing providing that you also have current Level 2 qualifications in English and Maths.
