NEW COURSE Reduced Fee - Practical Horse Care for Adults (non-riding)

Course details:  Level 1 Certificate   

This course has been specifically designed for adults both new and experienced in the equine industry. It is suitable for anyone wanting to learn how to safely care for horses, those entering equine employment for the first time, as well as those who have established themselves in a role, and therefore supports on-going professional development. The course will be tailored to your experience and can be flexible to suit your needs.

 

 

 

The qualification provides the learners with the opportunity:

 

  • To undergo both formal and informal training within a workplace environment in order to develop their skills
  • To learn how to work safely, effectively and efficiently in the equine workplace
  • To reduce unnecessary risks to themselves and others
  • To improve learners' awareness of Health and Safety legislation and see how individuals can contribute to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) agenda

 

 

The qualification consists of 6 mandatory: (Total of 16 credits)

 

  • Principles of maintaining Health and Safety in the work place (2 credits)
  • Principles of cleaning the stables and yard (3 credits)
  • Assist with cleaning the stables and yard (4 credits)
  • Groom and wash horses under direction (3 credits)
  • Principles of putting on and taking off tack (1 credit)
  • Assist with putting on and taking off tack (3 credits)

 

Entry requirements:

 

Some previous basic handling would be desirable. 

 

Additional information:

 

This is a non-riding course, however subject to a riding assessment we maybe able to offer some private tuition outside your course.

 The course will be held every Saturday for 20 weeks apart from Easter holidays.
