Level 2 Certificate in Floristry Part-time over 2 years (year 1)

Considering a career in floristry?
Want to take floristry more seriously? Then this may be the course for you. The course is suitable for all those looking for a change in career or as natural progression from basic floristry skills. 

Programme Aims

This course is designed to provide a strong basis of practical skills and an understanding of the principles of floristry and retailing. At the end of this course you should be equipped with the knowledge, skills and techniques to be able to cope with the every day aspects of a florist shop, with work experience in this area required during the duration of the course.  
 

Course Content:
This course aims to prepare you for all that you may face during the everyday life of a floristry shop.
 

  • We aim to develop your design skills, inspiration, creativity and a whole range of floristry, retail and personal skills.
  • Most lessons will include a tutor demonstration and then give you the opportunity to produce a least one practical piece. ·
  • Investigate and explore each area of work (unit) including
    • gift designs
    • funeral pieces
    • planted design
    • hand tied bouquets and wedding designs
  • Increase your knowledge and confidence
    • Get competitive, go to and enter shows, competitions and demonstrations
    • Travel locally, nationally and internationally to industry events
    • Have the opportunity to develop the key skills for life e.g. communication, computer skills and basic maths
    • Find an outlet for you creativity
    • Work hard and have fun 

Each unit has an assignment (practical and written work) to complete and at the end of the course, there is a multiple-choice test with questions from the five main units. An industry-recognised City & Guild’s certificate is issued on successful completion. Students achieving one or more units will receive a Certificate of Unit Credit listing the assessment components achieved.

Entry Requirements:
All we ask is an open mind, a thirst for knowledge and dedication to stick with the course.

Progression:
To further your skills and create designs with you own identity, we recommend the Level 3 Diploma in Floristy. 

Venue:
Bicton College  

Students will need to provide a work box and flowers, foliage and sundries each week costing around £12 - £20.
Guidance and advice will be given each week on utilising garden-produced material. We also have a florist shop at Bicton where students may purchase tools, flowers, foliage and sundries.
