You are looking to enhance your skills in the business side of running a farm.
A good understanding and knowledge of livestock farming. A level 3 qualification in agriculture is preferred but not essential if you are experienced in agriculture.
The course is split into modules. In the first year you will study -
- Nutrition, fertility and breeding
- Health and welfare
- Environment and grassland management
During the second year you will study -
- Cash flows
- Business plans
- Capital expenditure
Within these modules you will bench mark your place of work to highlight what is working well and not so well, from which you can look at ways of improving your business.
Each module has at least two farm visits.
To learn loads! It is a very relaxed atmosphere with similar people all wanting to improve themselves and the business they work for. The days are full of information and can be related to your place of work, so it all makes sense.
Every session is delivered from an Industry Specialist (vet, nutritionist, agronomist, farm consultant), so it doesn't feel like a college day, more like a discussion group where you can ask questions related to your work placement, knowing you are asking the experts who are out there delivering to farmers daily.
Become a farm manager, run your own business or further education should you wish.
