You have a keen interest in horticulture and wish to obtain a theory based qualification.
To do some research and an element of homework, probably one evening per week.
This theory-based horticulture qualification focuses on developing the knowledge and understanding of a range of horticultural practices, in the following subject areas:
- Understanding garden features, plant selection and planning
- Understanding the choice, establishment and maintenance of garden plants and lawns
- Understanding the production of outdoor vegetables and fruit
- Understanding protected environments and their use in plant cultivation
To achieve this Certificate you will need to pass one exam for each named subject area as listed above. The exam consists of short answer and long answer questions to test your knowledge. It is possible to pass the course with a commendation, subject to achieving 70% or above in each exam.
An opportunity is given to take two of the exams during February and the remaining two during July (from a September start date).
Students who have completed this course go onto RHS course at Level 3, RHS practical at level 2, completion of the RHS Diploma, Garden Design or become self-employed gardeners and work for other organisations in a gardening role, plus working in plant nurseries and garden centres.
