School Farm Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is offering a Level 1 Practical Horticulture Skills course in partnership with Bicton College.
You are a complete novice who would like to learn about growing organic vegetables and gain a qualification.
Topics such as:
- Soils and compost
- No-dig methods
- Transplanting and planting out
- Weed control
Working in the farm's fields, glasshouses and polytunnels, this course acts as a good introduction to all aspects of growing organic vegetables from seed to harvest.
The course will take place at School Farm CSA, a certified organic community farm on the beauty Dartington estate near Totnes, Devon.
The farm grows a variety of crops, utilizing different methods, to provide enough vegetables for their 67 veg box customers. Course teaching is delivered by the CSA’s staff, all experienced growers who have themselves been through the process of gaining qualifications in organic growing before they launched their own farm enterprise.
This unique opportunity to learn on a working farm where community, education and care for the land are at the heart of the business.
You could progress onto further study such as the level 2 qualification or you may choose to just grow your own food sustainably.
