This course is for those wishing to gain basic skills in dog grooming and bathing, in preparation for the City and Guilds Level 3 Diploma for Introductory Dog Grooming City and Guilds Certificate (NPTC)
This course won’t give you the qualification required to work as a professional dog groomer but it will give you the experience and skills necessary to progress to the Level 3.

You have an interest in dog grooming and want to eventually progress into a career within this area.
To be 19 years old or above.
It would be advantageous to be working within the dog grooming industry (as a volunteer or in paid employment) but this isn't essential.
You will need to have a good level of literacy to enable you to complete the assignment work.
Practical skills such as bathing and preparing a range of dogs with different coat types for the grooming process, as well as basic trimming techniques.
You'll learn the underpinning theory and assessment is via the completion of written assignments and practical assessments. There are no examinations.
To study a range of units including -
- Approaching dogs, handling, correct control and restraint techniques
- Health checks and recognising ill-health
- Preparation and grooming of dogs prior to bathing
- Correct bathing and cleaning techniques
- Dry dogs and prepare their coats for styling
- Basic trimming of a dog's coat
- Equipment for grooming - how it is used and maintained
- Health and safety in the dog grooming environment
- Dealing with clients
Having the opportunity to spend time working within the newly designed, well-equipped Dog Grooming Unit.
The Level 3 Certificate for Introductory Dog Grooming and then the Level 3 Diploma for Professional Dog Stylists - if you wish to work as a professional groomer.
The Level 3 Diploma will give you tuition and experience in hand-stripping and also styling and trimming of spaniels, short and long-legged terriers, schnauzers and poodles to show standards.
