As a qualified mechanic you could work in an amazingly diverse industry, whether servicing, repairing, working managing a fleet or as a mobile specialist, once qualified there are lots of career opportunities. Modern technology means you won’t just be working with sockets, wrenches and pliers to repair engines, with modern cars now requiring computer diagnostics for fault finding and repairs you will become familiar with the latest technology, repair techniques and testing.
We offer a range of professional qualifications and training that will allow you to become a qualified mechanic, whatever level you start at. The courses on this page show how you can study full-time to become a light vehicle specialist in general maintenance and repair. Level 1, 2 and 3 need to be achieved to be fully qualified.

You have completed the Level 1 qualification and want to pursue a career as a vehicle technician.
To have completed the Level 1 course and have English and maths GCSEs at grade 4 or above or relevant experience in the sector.
This one-year course will introduce you to a variety of specialist topics to further your knowledge and understanding of vehicles. You will be continually assessed through practical assignments throughout the course, and some on-line tests. In this year you will focus on the practical elements of removing and fitting replacement parts with a focus on:
- Workshop safety
- Cooling & lubrication systems
- Fuel & ignition systems
- Electrical & electronic systems
- Engine systems
- Braking systems
To be continually assessed throughout your course, both in theory and practical.
Gaining the knowledge and skills to work in a professional garage, and the opportunity to practice your skills during your full practical day (6 hours per week) in our fully equipped workshops.
The workplace as an advanced apprentice or carry on full time with the Level 3 diploma.
