The highly successful Police and Criminal Justice Access to HE Diploma at our Saltash campus is designed as a stepping stone to enable motivated, enthusiastic people to progress on to a range of police, criminology and law related degrees.
This diploma is validated by Ascentis and is a recognised qualification for progression by universities.
It is a challenging course and you will in effect be studying the equivalent of 3 A levels in 9 months as opposed to 2 years, therefore full attendance and absolute commitment is required to allow you to fully maximise your learning opportunities. If you are a proactive individual who is determined to realise their potential as a professional in this sector, this is the course for you.

You wish to professionalise your existing employment through accessing a degree pathway or you have always aspired to work in the police, law and criminology sector.
There are no formal entry requirements for this course but all applicants will be invited to attend an Access Workshop and complete the Initial Assessment and a written exercise.
Most police, law and criminology based university degrees now stipulate that all applicants need to have at least a GCSE grade C in English and maths, therefore priority will be given to applicants who already meet these entry requirements. However, if you do not meet these requirements please contact us to discuss your options.
5 Study Skills modules including:
- Developing Your Research Skills
- Academic Writing
- Examination Techniques and Practices
You will also study a range of academic modules from the Social Sciences, such as:
- Stress and Wellbeing
In total you will study 20 modules over the 9 month course. The pathway has been designed to reflect undergraduate programmes to fully prepare you for university.
To attend college 2 days per week for 35 weeks, designed to help those learners who have school aged children or other dependents. The course may also run 2 evenings and 1 full day per week (subject to course numbers).
In addition to college work, students are assisted in finding a work experience placement which is essential if they are looking to progress on to a related degree.
Assessment is via a range of methods including essays, reports, presentations and observations. There are no exams on this course.

The progression options for students studying on this course are numerous. This qualification acts as an entry onto foundation and degree courses including; Police Studies, Criminal Justice and Criminology studies and many more.
