You are interested in rescue work, entry to the emergency services or other public sector organisations. Using unique locations around Cornwall this course will prepare you for roles in the public service sector and specifically the coastal safety, emergency service and community service fields. Based at our Camborne campus we are ideally located to access a range of indoor and outdoor training areas including Newquay, Falmouth, Truro, Bodmin and Dartmoor.
five GCSEs at grade C or 4, including English and mathematics, or a relevant Level 2 qualification at merit.
Practical skills and theory supported by industry professionals covering a range of interesting topics such as leadership, planning for emergency incidents, water safety management, police powers, government policies, adventurous activities, fundamentals of rescue skills and fitness training.
To visit and train with the emergency community services. To be assessed via assignments, project work and practical tasks. Challenges to improve your skills, leadership, communication and decision making. To gain valuable life and work experiences. To undertake volunteering and work experience within the local community. Annual optional visits to London and to The Houses of Parliament.
Working with the emergency services, the mix of theory and practical lessons, guest lecturers and the opportunity to participate in public service events and activities.
The selection process for a uniformed service, other public sector work. Possible careers include the police, ambulance service, paramedic, emergency care assistant, fire and rescue service, HM coastguard, RNLI, local council and government. You may decide to progress onto the second year of our Public Services Coastal, Community & Emergency Services BTEC Extended Diploma Level 3.
Jamie Crisp Team Lead - Public Services
One of Cornwall College's Team Leaders for military preparation training and public service programmes is Jamie Crisp. Jamie spent 24 years in the military as a senior non-commissioned officer in the British Army and was a specialist PT instructor as well as a senior tactics instructor, conducting operational tours around he world. The Military Academy at Duchy College Stoke Climsland is Jamie's brainchild, a programme dedicated to getting young people the very best start in a military career.
