The Access to Social Science Higher Education Diploma is a one year course which is a nationally recognised qualification that provides students with the entry requirements for most Higher Education degrees.
Access to HE courses are designed as a stepping stone to enable motivated, enthusiastic people to progress on to Higher Education.
You are aged 19 or older and looking to re-direct your career or progress on to Higher Education.
There are no specific entry requirements, but you will need to have enthusiasm, commitment and a desire to further your education.
It is worth noting that many universities will expect you to have Maths and English at GCSE A-C. Ideally you should have gained these qualifications before starting the Access course, but we can offer you the chance to study GCSE's alongside your Access course as long as you have previously sat them but not achieved an A-C. Please note this is not an easy route as you will have significant work to do alongside your Access course.
A range of units, some are awarded at level 2 (equivalent to GCSE) but the majority are at level 3 (equivalent to A level). Each unit is worth 3 credits. For successful completion of the access course you will need a minimum of 45 credits at level 3 and 60 credits overall. Each unit at level 3 is awarded a pass, merit or distinction.
The majority of the units you will study will focus on sociology and psychology, with some units relating to education. You will also study a range of subjects that build and prepare you for academic study at university level including exam techniques, research skills and ICT.
