If PE is your favourite subject at school and you would love to turn your passion for sport into a full-time career, then our sports diploma will open up a wide range of career options you may not have even thought of. From elite athlete to coach, nutritionist to gym instructor, personal trainer to sports therapist there is something for everyone.
We offer two options for you to start your sporting career depending on your GCSE results. Our Level 3 course offers you the choice of university study or employment on successful completion of your course. Our Level 2 course is ideal should your GCSE results not be what you expected, with the option to progress to Level 3.

We’ve got commercial gyms, sports pitches and fantastic training partnerships including with Plymouth Argyle Football Club.

You would like go on to university to become a sports coach, PE teacher, sports therapist, nutritionist, or sports psychologist.
Four GCSEs at grade 4 including English and/or mathematics and ideally science, plus a strong desire to work in the sport, health and fitness industry. Or a Sport Diploma Level 2 at merit grade.
The essentials of this sector including the principles of anatomy and physiology, how to assess risk in sport, fitness testing, sports leadership and coaching, nutrition and sport development.
To be in college for three to four days a week, complete work experience placements, employability workshops and to be assessed in a variety of ways; practical and written. You will also be expected to complete end of year exams.
Our wide range of sport equipment including a 3G pitch, climbing tower, sports hall, fitness suites and more.
You'll get to work with industry professionals to ensure you have the skills employers are looking for.
University study such as our FdSc Sport Health & Fitness with possible progression on to our BSc (Hons) Sport, Health & Exercise Science (top-up).

Mark Ferguson-Smith Team Lead - Sport
Mark is a Cornwall College alumni, studying sport along with other subjects at A-level, he was also captain of the football academy and vice-captain of the Cornwall schools under 18s football team. Before joining Cornwall College Mark taught PE in secondary schools, gained FA level 1 and youth award coaching status and he is on the selection panel for the Cornwall youth football team. He also plays golf to a handicap of 9.
