We work with a wide range of local and regional employers providing apprenticeship training for land-based engineering. Whether that is farm machinery or grounds keeping on an estate or resort. To follow the apprenticeship route and earn while you learn, you will need to find a company with an element of land-based engineering to employ you. The majority of your time will be spent in the workplace with one day a week at college learning theory and the latest maintenance and repair techniques. To become fully qualified you must complete the Level 3 qualification. Construction Diploma

Land based, work based plant operations Level 1 is the course if you want an overall introduction to the construction industry and most importantly heavy plant operations. You will have the opportunity to carry out a number of construction tasks using plant ranging from 1.5 ton mini excavators up to 14 ton 360 degree tracked excavators and if that’s not enough you will also receive introductory training using 6 ton high vis forward tipping dumpers and telescopic handlers. Literally getting in at ground level, gaining the experience to develop your skills before progressing on to the level 2 course and gaining your CPCS certificate for professional operators. During the course you will be trained and given the opportunity to gain your CPCS operators Health and safety card which is the first step and an essential requirement to gain access and open door to a host of opportunities in the construction industry. As a trainee operator you will be involved initially in basic excavation trenching etc. then progressing onto more complex excavations for example structural foundations and service boxes. All training will be delivered to the high standards required By the Construction industry training board. Plant Operations - Groundworks Certificate

This Plant Operations certificate is your gateway to gaining your full professional operators qualification if you want operate heavy plant to the exacting standards of the modern construction site this is the course for you. Once complete and the CPCS test has been passed this is your passport to a career in the construction industry and recognition of your professional operating skills. Standards Apprenticeship - Machinist

This Level 3 apprenticeship is ideal if you want to start your journey to becoming a qualified engineer. The apprenticeship route provides an ideal foundation for a wide range of skills within the engineering field. Within the 4-year apprenticeship you will start from a general engineering platform at the foundation phase (years 1 & 2), where you will learn a grounding in Engineering, with a mix of units. You will learn a range of practical skills, be able to follow technical drawings and work carefully and methodically. The course is 75% practical workshop based with 25% classroom theory work. You will have to complete a range of practical assessments to a high standard alongside reports that detail what you have done and whether you met the required standard. You will then progress onto the development phase (Years 3 & 4) where you will hone your skills specific to your pathway and your job. Learning all the skills and knowledge required in greater depth and understanding that years 1 & 2. This phase is 50% theory and 50% practical. Completing units on a pass/merit/distinction basis. All training is provided by ex-industry experts with many years within their field to guide you through your learning and assessment within the course. Alongside this College based qualificatqualification, you will complete an NVQ style competence qualification. A Cornwall College assessor will walk you through the process of completing report write ups of jobs you do at work. Once you have completed the four qualifications (2 at Foundation and 2 at Development phases) you will progress to an End Point Assessment, where you will be assessed on your skills and knowledge in an interview. Metal Fabricator Apprenticeship Standard

This occupation is found in the advanced manufacturing engineering and engineering construction sectors. The broad purpose of the occupation is to carry out metal fabrication work using things such as rolled steel joists, columns, channels, steel plate and metal sheet etc. Work includes manufacturing bridges, oil rigs, ships, petro-chemical installations, cranes, platforms, aircraft, automotive and machinery parts, sheet metal enclosures, equipment supports, and anything that can be fabricated out of metal. Fabricators can work alone or in teams, in factories or on operational sites. Fabricators use a large range of metals including steel, aluminium and titanium at a range of thickness's from 0.5mm up to over 20mm. The size and weight of the fabrications can range from components that can easily be picked up by hand, to massive structures that require several cranes to manipulate. In their daily work, an employee in this occupation interacts with planners, supervisors, inspectors, designers, welders, pipe fitters, fitters, machinists, riggers, steel erectors, stores personnel, painters and many others involved in manufacturing, production, maintenance and repair. An employee in this occupation will be responsible for the quality and accuracy of their own work whilst ensuring it conforms to a relevant specification such as an engineering drawing or an international standard. Fabricators are also responsible for the health, safety and environmental (HS&E) protection of themselves and others around them.
