The Level 2 Award in Felling Trees up to 380mm takes places over 5 days. The first 4 days consist of training and assessment is on the 5th day.
Applicants must be over 16 years of age and hold a valid NPTC Certificate of Competence: CS30 Chainsaw Maintenance. Proof of pre-qualifications must be emailed/posted to the college before the course start date as evidence.
Other awarding body qualifications must be submitted to check if they are compatible with this NPTC course.

This training course is intended for those involved in tree climbing operations and leads to the NPTC Certificate of Competence to Climb Trees and Perform Aerial rescue. It does not involve use of a chainsaw, but covers the minimum requirement for a ground person working with a climber in arboriculture.
As aerial rescue is obligatory, those attending should have a ‘head for heights’.
Training takes place over the first 5 days with assessment on Day 6.
On this course you will identify functions and fitting of specialist equipment, use and tying of specialist knots, pre-climbing equipment checks; identification of hazards such as overhead cables, role of the climber and of the ground person, secure working position, climbing techniques, branch walking, use of supplementary anchor points, storage of equipment and regulations (LOLER, PUWER).

This course runs over 3 days – 2 days training followed by assessment on Day 3. You will need to be fully competent in the use of a chainsaw and have a full set of personal protective clothing complying with current Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements.
Applicants must be aged sixteen or older and hold the following NPTC Certificates of Competence:
Chainsaw Maintenance – CS30
Small Tree Felling – CS31
Climb Tree and Perform Aerial Rescue – CS38

Land Based Forklift Truck Operations City & Guilds Award

A practical course which meets the Health and Safety Executive requirements for this type of machine. The course promotes awareness of hazards in lift truck operation (rough terrain), machine capabilities/limitations, and develops operator skills with telescopic materials handlers. This qualification will appeal to those who use a forklift as part of their work in agriculture, horticulture or distribution and warehousing. It has been developed to cover the “basic training” requirements of the Approved Code of Practice for Rider Operated Forklift Trucks.
This does not replace any legal requirement for a driving licence.

This course is suitable for Farmers and Growers, or anyone that uses a Boom Sprayer as part of their work or employment.
The course will enhance your understanding of the subject, and enable you to legally spray your own land or that of your employer.
This course consists of one day of training, mainly classroom based and takes the form of a powerpoint presentation which covers PA1. There will also be a practical demonstration of PA2.
You will then have an on farm assessment to enable you to gain the required City and Guilds/NPTC Level 2 Award in the Safe Use of Pesticides.

This workshop is suitable for beginners as we will go through all the basic techniques in making our jewellery. A fun and enjoyable day making truely unique jewellery.
All learners will have their own set of tools/firing stations and class sizes are limitied to ensure covid sate environment and social distancing measures, please bring along any refreshments and masks which will be worn during demos.
All materials required for this course are included in the cost of the workshop, we also have a stash of locally collected seaglass but if you have any special pieces you would like to use do bring them along.

A two day course is for anyone who would like to learn how to build stone walls or would like to improve their existing skills.
This is a practical course. You will cover health and safety, tools, techniques and learn how to build a stone wall . You will have the various types of walling explained to you and you will discuss the skills involved.
You will be more confident in your ability to build safe and durable walls.
All participants must wear steel toe capped boots. Please bring suitable gloves and protective glasses. If you are able to bring your own tools from the following list below please do so:
