Nursing CAVA Access To HE Diploma

Level 3 • Full-time • Bicton College

The Access to Nursing programme is designed as a stepping stone to enable motivated, enthusiastic people to progress on to a range of health and social care related Higher Education degree programmes. Validated by CAVA, this is a recognised qualification for progression by universities. The course is challenging and you will in effect be studying the equivalent of 3 A levels in 9 months as opposed to 2 years. Therefore full attendance and absolute commitment is required to allow you to fully maximise your learning opportunities. If you are a proactive individual who is determined to realise their potential as a professional in the health care sector, then this pathway is for you. The course runs from September until the end of June/early July, 2 days per week. The course may also run 2 evenings and 1 day per week (subject to course numbers). This is a challenging course and it is expected that students will complete a minimum of 15 hours of independent study each week. Students may access college facilities on the days that they are not taught with some evening study available. Please also be advised that most universities require work experience to complement your UCAS application-therefore it is highly recommended that you are working within the health care sector in either a voluntary or paid capacity. You will love the high quality teaching and learning experience is delivered by subject specialists who are all dedicated to supporting your progression into the university of your choice. The team is highly professional with a well-deserved reputation for the quality of their knowledge base and pastoral care. You should feel confident that you are in very good hands, and know that your success is what drives us. You’ll also enjoy the support offered by our Learning Centre, Student Services amongst others, and will be scheduled, for the majority of your learning, in a dedicated (Adult) Higher Education building. Please Note: This course is only available to applicants who are 19+

Diploma in Person-centred Counselling & Therapy

Level 5 • Part-time • Cornwall College Camborne

This programme is ideal if you wish to become a professional counsellor, or if your job role contains a significant element of counselling. It has been accredited by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and successful completion means you can practice independently as a qualified counsellor. For September 2020 intake, attendance is required 1 day a week, term time only for 2 years (Tuesdays 9.30am to 4.30pm) The programme contains an in-depth module on personal development, as well as counselling practice, professional development and counselling psychology modules. You will start to work with clients as a counsellor, practise and develop your counselling skills, develop your understanding of the counselling process and expand your ability to be in a professional relationship with your client. You will do this within a person-centred framework and in the second year you will visit other counselling models. You will be required to carry out 100 hours of counselling work with clients (i.e. in addition to counselling practice with peers) over the duration of the programme through placements with counselling agencies across Cornwall. We have strong links with placement providers and can support this process. You will need to keep accurate records of your client work, and if the placement does not provide supervision, you will need to engage a counselling supervisor to support your client work. Again we can offer you guidance with this. It would be inconsistent with a person-centred model for you to have no experience of personal counselling as a client, so it is highly recommended that you undertake personal counselling while you are on the course.
