Focussing upon the fundamental practical skills in horticulture, the learner will be able to learn skills such as planting out, preparing ground, plant maintenance techniques.

An Award in Practical Horticulture Skills is for adult learners (19+) and adults getting started in the horticulture industry. Or you might be working in a horticulture job and want to improve your skills. You don't need any previous experience or a current work placement.

This level will suit you if you've developed a real interest in Horticulture and want to either progress into work, progress from Level 1 to other related horticulture qualifications, or if you have a passion for learning more about horticulture and developing your skills and knowledge further.

The qualification is taken as part-time learning from Dartington.

Join our floristry tutors Denise Cross and Lucy Somerville in the beautiful grounds of Bicton College for a workshop to make a beautiful Christmas wreath to hang on your door and a lovely table arrangement (with optional Candles) to decorate your table for the festive season. The tutors will share expert tips to help you create an attractive wreath using lots of lovely evergreen foliage and fresh moss along with scented cinnamon sticks, fir cones and orange slices. Planning And Planting A Herb Garden ( Occupational Studies) – Dartington

This 6 week course, running 1 day a week, is a great introduction to growing organic herbs for food, health and wildlife. Students will get to know many different herbs and learn about growing them, planning a garden, and different ways of harvesting and using herbs. The course offers some great ideas for small scale enterprise and an introduction to specific professional skills. This course takes place in the herb garden at School Farm CSA, a certified organic community market garden on the beautiful Dartington estate near Totnes, Devon. The course is delivered by an experienced grower, with a small herb nursery business, and a love of growing and using herbs for health and cooking. This course is suitable for anyone with an interest in growing herbs and can be applicable to people growing in pots, a small garden or on a larger scale both professionally and for home use. Some experience of gardening or plant knowledge, will be beneficial, although the course can be enjoyed by beginners and more experienced gardeners alike.
