This Level 1 course will take place at School Farm, on the beautiful Dartington estate near Totnes, Devon. It is a great introduction for those who want to grow on any scale, whether it is a small patio garden, an allotment or on a larger piece of land.

The School Farm site hosts a range of enterprises from vegetable growers to therapeutic horticulture and the course will be delivered by experienced growers and teachers from the enterprises.

This course is suitable for anyone with an interest in or some experience of gardening or plant knowledge, and can be enjoyed by enthusiastic beginners and more experienced gardeners alike.

Students can expect 1 day a week of practical learning on the land in different seasons and weather conditions.

  What You Will Learn

Students can expect 1 day a week of practical learning on preparing the soil, sowing and carrying for young/mature plants in different weather conditions.

  Entry Requirements

There are no strict entry requirements, but some experience of gardening and plants is very valuable and enthusiasm to learn is essential.

  Progression

Students may go on to grow their own food, work as a gardener, set up a growing enterprise or further study or apprenticeships in organic growing.
