Develop your skills in planning your edible garden. Whether you are staring from scratch with a field or want to improve your allotment planning, you will look at crop rotation, successional sowing and planning for planting tress and fruit. You will have a chance to work on plans for your own garden space and gain new skills in assessing the land using permaculture principles and creating a plan that will produce food throughout the year.
This 6 week course, running 1 day a week, is a great introduction to planning your productive organic garden. Students will create a growing plan for their own (real or imaginary) growing space, including vegetables, fruit and herbs. The course will look at different approaches to planning fruit and vegetable crops, including permaculture design, forest gardening, allotment growing and using small or marginal spaces. For veg growing the course looks at successional sowing, making the most of space, incorporating green manures and fertility building, seeds varieties and seed ordering. For fruit growing the course looks at planning top fruit and soft fruit planting.
Participants will sow seeds of different crops, and take a creative approach to planning their fruit and vegetable growing that they can implement through the year.
