Duchy College Stoke Climsland LEVEL: 3 Agriculture & Countryside Management

This course is designed to equip students with the knowledge and practical skills necessary to manage a wide range of game species and their associated habitats. Duchy College has a small pheasant and partridge shoot used to demonstrate good practice and provide a platform for practical skills development by offering a realistic hands on experience.

Ideal if:

You are interested in game and wildlife management and would like to develop the skills you will need to work in this sector.

You’ll need:

Five GCSEs at grade C or 5, including English and maths.

You’ll learn:

About game bird management, the control of pests and vermin, woodland management and assessing the health and welfare of animals.


To work on game and wildlife habitat management projects, local sites, shooting estates and woodlands. Assessment includes both coursework and exams.

Nick Taylor Course Manager - Conservation & Countryside

Nick has spent many years working in the conservation sector, in many roles: as a keeper at London Zoo, Taronga Zoo Sydney, the Monkey Sanctuary near Looe and as a warden at the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust. He's travelled the world to experience all manner of wildlife in their natural habitats, and has been to every continent except South America and Antarctica. For the last 15 years Nick has been teaching at Duchy College and is their resident expert in wildlife identification.
