Animal Management Apprenticeship

If you are passionate about animals and would love a job where you work with them every day, then a career in animal management is for you. As an apprentice you will work with a range of animals and learn more about their health, welfare, handling and supervision, as well as earning money at the same time.

An animal management apprenticeship will often be for those who have already successfully completed a relevant Level 2 provision and/or who hold appropriate employment, expertise and responsibilities performed within the workplace. You must be employed within the sector and display a strong interest in your job role, as well as being able to demonstrate enthusiasm and a strong determination to succeed as a recognised professional within industry.

Ideal if:

You have already completed a relevant Level 2 qualification and you work in or would like to work in the animal management industry.

Entry Requirements:

GCSEs in English and maths at grade D or 3. You'll also need an employer willing to hire you as an apprentice.

What You Will Learn:

This apprenticeship will help you develop your management skills in the workplace and will further enhance your animal management abilities in animal health, controlling and restraining animals, animal feeding and nutrition, breeding, monitoring and evaluating animal accommodation. You will spend one day a fortnight on campus with the remaining four days spent with your employer over the course of 18 to 24 months.

To spend one day each week on campus and the remaining four days in the workplace with your employer.

PROFILE

Kit Williams Course Co-ordinator Animal Management

Kit studied animal management at Duchy College Rosewarne where he carried out a work placement at Paradise Park and was offered a full-time job on completion of his studies. Kit then applied for an apprentice technician role at Rosewarne and on successful completion was offered a job and now works as a course manager and instructor and is a wildlife and bird expert. "I enjoy sharing my passion for wildlife and animal management with my learners, giving the students an understanding of the complexities of the natural world and the importance of animal welfare and husbandry."
