This course is designed for those wishing to gain the skills and knowledge for safe and effective working as a qualified Veterinary Nurse. Our lecturers have a great knowledge of their subject and will help you gain more skills with the use our facilities which include a model veterinary nursing practice at our Rosewarne campus.
You are fully employed in your chosen career path and hold a genuine interest in your area of work, demonstrating enthusiasm and a strong determination to succeed.
To be in paid employment with a Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) approved training practice and have a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade C or 5, including English, maths and science.
The operational requirements of a veterinary practice, veterinary nursing duties, anatomy, physiology and genetics, animal health, wellbeing and husbandry, supporting the supply of veterinary medicines and supporting veterinary anaesthesia.
To spend one day each week on campus and the remaining four days in the workplace with your employer. There are also two block weeks per year of study.
Earning money while gaining a nationally recognised qualification and the opportunity to gain formal Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons certification.
Employment in industry utilising your veterinary nursing skills, or university study.
Jo Challacombe Technician - Animal Management
Jo manages the care of a wide range of animals at Duchy College's Stoke Climsland animal care unit and supports students on further and higher education programmes, to give them the best hands-on learning experience. Jo originally trained in equitation science before broadening her experience into understanding the needs and behaviours of a range of animals from rats and snakes to centipedes and rabbits!
