This exciting Level 3 course, based at Dartmoor Zoo, will allow you to find out more about zoo animal husbandry and develop your scientific knowledge to progress to university study.

You have a keen interest in a variety of animal species and the aspiration to find future employment in a zoo-based setting.
Five GCSEs at grade C or 5, including English, maths and science.
About a whole variety of aspects of animal management; including animal nutrition, animal handling and safe working, health and welfare, husbandry of exotic species, animal biology, anatomy and physiology, behaviour, breeding, genetics and wildlife ecology.
To undertake work experience for 1 day per week at the zoo (working with the keepers and the education team) and attend college 1 day per week.
Visiting other zoos and animal organisations in the UK and maybe even in Europe.
Employment within the animal industry, or university study such as our FdSc Animal Behaviour & Psychology, FdSc Animal Health & Management, FdSc Veterinary Nursing or FdSc Zoological Conservation.
Jo Challacombe Technician - Animal Management
Jo manages the care of a wide range of animals at Duchy College's Stoke Climsland animal care unit and supports students on further and higher education programmes, to give them the best hands-on learning experience. Jo originally trained in equitation science before broadening her experience into understanding the needs and behaviours of a range of animals from rats and snakes to centipedes and rabbits!
