A practical-based qualification to improve the horticultural skills needed for career development to supervisory or management roles, or to further develop your interest. This course is ideal if you are self employed within horticulture and would like a formal qualification.
you have a keen interest in gardening and wish to develop your skills to a higher level with supporting underpinning knowledge.
to have completed the RHS level 2 practical certificate, have an equivalent qualification or have relevant experience.
- Propagation (seed sowing and a range of cutting types)
- Soil preparation and planting
- Pruning, soil testing and grafting.
You are also required to identify a wide range of plants and seeds by their botanical names, plus pests and diseases by their common names.
To achieve this level 3 practical certificate you will need to complete all of the practical tests and identification tests and under pinning knowledge assessment proformas in the form of short reports and risk assessments. This will involve some research and an element of homework.
Students who have completed this course go onto RHS level 3 theory certificates, or become self-employed gardeners and work for other organisations in a gardening role, plus working in plant nurseries and garden centres in a supervisory role.
