Our taster days are your chance to get a taste of what college is really like, You will meet our expert teaching staff, get hands-on with real course activities and try out the equipment plus meet other potential students so there are familiar faces when you enrol.
The Duchy College Taster Days are aimed at students aged 14+, in Years 10 and 11, currently at school (or being home tutored) who want to experience a taste of life as a Duchy student for a day and explore ideas for future careers.

Visit our fantastic Animal Management Centre. Spend time with the huge variety of animals we keep, have a go at handling snakes and stick insects, or try your hand at dog grooming. Learn about the care of a whole range of pets and farm livestock, meet the animal management team and gain an insight into the world of work in the animal industry.
Discover how to drive diggers, forklifts and dumpers, which are used on construction sites. Find out more about the maintenance of these machines and have a go at stripping an engine and welding.
Thinking about a career in football? Come along and take part in a range of coaching sessions delivered by FA qualified staff. You will look at sports performance, coaching techniques and have an opportunity to analyse your own performance.
The outdoor adventure tasters are the ideal opportunity meet the lecturers and enjoy a range of activities, which include: mountain biking, camp and survival skills, and climbing. All of the activities will give you an insight into a career in the outdoor adventure industry and will allow you to experience some of the topics available while you study.
Enjoy a taster day full of activities that you will undertake when you come and study on a sports course. Activities consist of performance analysis using Dartfish technology, learning how to conduct fitness tests using VO2max testing equipment, compiling training programmes and learning about the effects of exercise on the body by dissecting animal hearts and lungs.
Public Services & Military Academy
Explore course and career opportunities within the public services. Meet the learners, meet serving and past serving members of the Emergency Services and Armed Forces and take the opportunity to see how the courses can meet your needs. During the taster day you will need to be required to take part in fitness tests, leadership and problem solving tasks. You will need to bring a waterproof jacket, sports kit, trainers, towel, shower kit, pen, paper and a sense of fun.
If you have a passion for food, come and experience a day engaging in practical food manufacturing activities in the Agri-food Centre. You will gain knowledge of the food industry and it’s array of career opportunities, produce food products and explore the science behind your results. Students will undertake organoleptic testing to draw conclusions about the effect on quality. Protective clothing will be provided. No jewellery or nail varnish is permitted in the processing room.
Equine (2 day residential)
Come and experience our excellent Equestrian Centre at Duchy College Stoke Climsland, where you will have the opportunity to get stuck in with yard duties and ride the horses. Find out about the world of working with horses too. You will need to wear appropriate clothes for working with horses and bring riding boots and a riding hat. Accommodation is in single study bedrooms and all meals are served in the College’s Pastures Restaurant. Evening activities are supervised by the resident warden team who are on duty at all times.
