Whether you wish to repair and maintain marine engines or design a yacht, marine engineering is the course for you.
Our expert staff and specialist workshops will provide you with the best hands-on tuition so that you can gain relevant experience to help your career progression in the marine engineering industry.
In March 2015, the engineering workshop was completely redeveloped, as part of a £3.6 million investment in Falmouth Marine School.
This combined with our partnership with Mylor Yacht Harbour has seen the installation of new engines, that include inboard and outboard engines, hydraulic systems, thrusters and generators from leading marine brands such as Vetus , Mercruiser and Yamaha, giving you access to the most up to date bits of kit on the market.
In our full-size marine engine control room you can practice all areas of maintenance such as hydraulics, electrical, and cooling systems, getting you ready to work on similar engines when you start working in the industry.

“I established Seatech Marine after graduating from Falmouth Marine School. This would not of been possible without the courses provided by the college. The practical and technical boat building was of great benefit and the GPR gave me such an advantage. Our qualifications are accepted everywhere. The Marine School is well thought of and ex-students respected.” Ian Heywood, SeaTech Marine

“My father was in the merchant navy, which inspired me to become a marine engineer. I am doing exactly what I dreamed of doing and am grateful to the tuition I received at the start of my journey at Falmouth Marine School. I have worked on ‘The World’, which is a cross between a superyacht and a cruiser, oil tankers for BP and several superyachts, the biggest being ‘The Octopus’ at 127 meters.
The subjects I studied at Falmouth Marine School provided the perfect grounding for my career and I constantly apply the principles and skills I learnt. I have the career I have always wanted and I have travelled all over the world meeting other professionals and clients with a Michelin starred chef on board.”
Kevin James Marine Engineering Course ManagerKevin grew up in Cornwall and went to Cape Cornwall School. Kevin has always tinkered on boats and spent several years working as a Head Greenkeeper before retraining as a Marine Engineer at Falmouth Marine School. This is where he discovered his passion for teaching others and completed his teacher training. Kevin worked in the industry as a self-employed marine engineer before returning to Falmouth Marine School to train the marine engineers of the future. “The demand for qualified marine engineers is extremely high. Our students are work-ready when they complete their course and have fantastic career prospects locally, nationally or even internationally.”
