Falmouth Marine School’s southerly position offers access to watersports all year round.
If you wish to train to work in the industry, Falmouth is one of the best locations. Our courses are designed by experienced lecturers that have worked in the industry, ensuring that you will gain a real insight into the career that you want to do.
The watersports sector has seen big changes over the past decade. One result of this is a huge demand for instructors, offering valid and rewarding long-term career paths. We host an annual Industry event where you can be interviewed by local, national and international companies, resulting in employment straight after completing your course. Previous students have gained employment with companies such as PGL, Heilson and Wark Warner at this event.
We have our very own Watersports Centre on the banks of the Fal Estuary and have easy access to both of the Cornish coastlines.
You will get the chance to experience a large range of sports including:
- Power Boating
- Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP)
you wish to have a career in the watersports industry
four GCSEs at grade D or 3, including English and mathematics and ideally science, plus a strong desire to work in the watersports industry.
the essentials of this sector including the planning, leading and promoting of outdoor and adventurous activities and business in watersports.
to be in college for three to four days a week, complete work experience placements, employability workshops and English and maths, and to be assessed in a variety of ways; practical and written.
the balance of theory put into practice, working in specialist facilities tailored to your needs and the amount of watersports practical activities.
employment in the industry, or progress on to our Watersports Diploma Level 3.

Hannah Mason Watersports Chief InstructorHannah is an RYA accredited advanced windsurf, senior dingy and powerboat instructor. Hannah is well known in the industry having 10 years of experience working at centres both in the UK and abroad. Hannah is a former Falmouth Marine School watersports student and obtained her first job at the College’s industry day. Having completed the same journey that the students have the opportunity to, she is in a unique position to advise and impart her experience. “I can provide students with a real insight into the industry and advise them on their future careers, because I have worked in some of the centres they will work in.”
