A brand new course at Cornwall College Camborne is celebrating 100% pass rate and 100% progression rate into the industry or onto further training.

The Bsc (Hons) Sport, Health and Exercise Science degree which was introduced last year has been developed thanks to the partnerships that Cornwall College has with local sporting bodies.

Course tutor, Philip Toy, said “We are delighted to have had such good results on such a new course. It’s fantastic to see the progress that the students have made through the year. The industry leaders have made a real impression on the students and provided them with great opportunities and insight into the industry.”

The brand new course, which follows naturally from the Fdsc Sport, Health and Fitness also available at Camborne, includes a term where the student has a placement within an industry role. From this course you can go onto jobs such as health referral, sports development officer or Research Assistant making it a great entry point into the sport industry.

Former student Mathew Cann carried out a placement at Pool School as a PE teacher whilst on the programme. He said “The incredible links to outside organisations such as the Cornwall Sports Partnership created opportunities for voluntary and ultimately resulted in paid work, which helped support myself and my family. I would (and have) recommend this course to any one that has a passion for promoting a healthy lifestyle such a Personal Trainers, Teachers and even Scientists. There really is something for everyone”

Mathew has now gone onto a PGCE with Cornwall College showing how this course is a great stepping stone onto a PGCE for any budding PE teachers out there.

Another student on the course, Rose Johnston said “I found the vast range of networking opportunities provided by college staff useful to finding work in the sports industry.  I currently have five regular sports coaching jobs that I wouldn’t have had I not attended Cornwall College.”
