In a major boost for those looking to study art at degree level, a Cornish College is offering a guaranteed progression route into Falmouth University.

The Cornwall College Foundation Diploma in Art & Design is a year of intense exploration and discovery for all aspiring and existing artists wishing to develop their talents, make friends and to make their mark locally and nationally.

The Foundation Diploma has the added attraction of giving students who successfully complete the course a guaranteed place at Falmouth University, according to Rachael Reeve-Edwards, team lead of the Art department at Cornwall College Camborne.

“Designed to prepare the next generation of artists and designers for the exciting world of the creative industries, the course offers a vibrant and exciting programme of study which cultivates existing skills and explores and develops new talents in all areas of art, design and media,” she explained.

“The course offers guaranteed progression to Falmouth University in addition to successfully preparing students for national and international university applications and interviews.”

With a strong track record in delivering award-winning creative education, Cornwall College also offers bespoke facilities and individual studio space for all learners in a dedicated purpose-built building, Rachael added.

Katie Baker, a Foundation Diploma Student said she has “absolutely loved this past year”.

“The Foundation course in Art and Design has been such a journey of inspirational development,” she continued.

“I have been able to develop creatively and been supported to do this in an open minded and inclusive atmosphere. It has really given me the opportunity to try lots of different art disciplines, before moving on to specialise in one area.”

The access to a wide range of forms of artistic study coupled with the various workshops focusing on 3D design, ceramics, fashion and textiles, printmaking, animation and film, are a huge draw for students who want an overview of their options, Rachael explained.

“Our Foundation course and exciting partnership with Falmouth University gives anyone interested in art and design the ideal route to their chosen career,” she continued.

“We have had considerable success over the years, with students winning national competitions, taking part in major exhibitions and receiving their own commissions. It’s the perfect way to develop additional skills and enhance their artistic flair.”

Cornwall College is currently taking applications, with staff available to discuss any questions.
