Bicton College Equine student, Elisabeth Colburn Sastre, has landed her dream summer job working at stables in an American summer camp.
Elisabeth, 17, is currently in her second year studying an Extended Diploma in Horse Management Level 3 at Bicton and has been riding since she was just seven years old. She was taken to her first riding lesson in Spain, where she immediately fell in love with the sport.
Team Lead for Equine & Vet Nursing at Bicton College, Alex Robinson-Barr, encouraged Elisabeth to apply for the brilliant opportunity. Elisabeth passed a thorough selection process before landing the role. Alex Robinson-Barr says, “The students learn vital practical skills during their time with us, opening the door to brilliant work opportunities. Elisabeth is a great example of this and we are very proud of the hard work she has put in to achieve this role.”
“After sending off the application and taking the phone calls I then found out that I had been accepted to work at the summer camp,” says Elisabeth. “My dream job is to travel all over the world, teaching and training horses in different stables. I’m very excited to go to America and work with the horses at the camp.”
Elisabeth will be teaching children at the camp how to ride, as well as looking after the horses. She will leave college two weeks early in June 2016 to take up the opportunity.
