Anyone who wished they had additional trade skills for either a DIY project or to upskill for a new career, can now attend dedicated courses designed to develop appropriate skills in just 10 weeks.
Cornwall College who are acknowledged as the number one training provider for trade skills in Cornwall and Devon by the CITB, are once again hosting their condensed training courses at their technology centre on the Camborne campus.
Jim Allen, Cornwall College, Course Tutor said, “We’ve been running these courses for several years and they attract a wide variety of students. The courses are designed to be highly practical so that new skills can be acquired quickly and because they run on a Saturday, they minimise disruption to working people.”
Lauren Roberts, Saturday Skills Plastering student commented, “I was looking to develop a new skill set for an up and coming building project, I really wanted to focus on plastering and the Saturday Skills course offered the right level of training at a convenient time.
“I’ve learnt so much and gained lots of really useful skills. The tutors were all great and the informal atmosphere makes for a fun and enjoyable workshop. I’m now looking at joining another course to further enhance my practical skills.”
Commencing on Saturday 21st April, DIY enthusiasts, people with projects and those already working in the construction industries, can choose from a plethora of courses including; plastering, brick & blockwork, plumbing carpentry and furniture making .
Justin Olosunde, Cornwall College, Technology Cluster Director added, “We feel that it is imperative for people in our local communities to have access to the best trade training, in appropriate surroundings with highly experienced tutors. I’m very pleased to say that Cornwall College offers that provision and the large amount of people who attend our Saturday Skills courses are testament to our success and also confirm our status.”
Jim Allen continued, “We offer both 10 week courses for people who want to learn a new skill and 30 weeks courses for those who want to re-train or upskill for a new career. All equipment and materials are provided, all we ask is that people wear suitable footwear.
“Our courses start from just £250 and we even have gift vouchers available for people to buy as presents to help with costs. Due to the nature of the Saturday Skills programme, places are limited as we like to provide lots of 1-2-1 advice.”
