The new Mayor of Falmouth, Grenville Chappell paid a visit to Falmouth Marine School following the completion of the £3.6M redevelopment of their campus on Killigrew Street.

Grenville was accompanied by Falmouth Town Clerk Mark Williams, Falmouth Business Improvement District Manager Richard Wilcox and Falmouth Town Manager Richard Gates.

The tour began in the new European style cafeteria and integrated library and then continued to the marine biology laboratories, which host the largest aquatic centre for teaching in the UK. The tanks are full of seahorses, sharks, piranhas and other fresh and tropical water species.

The group then headed for the marine engineering workshop, fully equipped with brand new engines and a commercial engine room with fuel mapping and diagnostic testing equipment.

Mayor of Falmouth, Grenville Chappell, said:  “The transformation of Falmouth Marine School is wonderful to see.  I came here as a young man to fix a fridge and the place looked a lot different back then.  It was great to see the Marine biology labs and the Marine Engineering workshop with the latest equipment for future engineers to train on.”

Justin Olosunde, Head of Falmouth Marine School, commented:  “We are delighted that the group could visit us today to see the transformation of Falmouth Marine School.  It’s even more poignant that Grenville can remember the marine school as a young man and can fully appreciate the transformation.  We now have the building to match the superb teaching and quality specialist courses we offer.”
