A sad time for both staff and students as Senior Technician Geoff Nevitt retires after 45 years at Bicton College.

Geoff joined the College in 1971 and after 45 years of service he was waved off by Staff and Students clapping and cheering as he and his colleagues drove a procession of Bicton’s collection of tractors up the impressive driveway to the front of the house which he has called his home for the last 45 years!

Geoff remembered a young Bicton College, which is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year, as the same land based College we see before us today but without the advanced technology that has developed over the years. He commented that one thing that hasn’t changed is the commitment to give students ’17 ounces to the pound’ and says that staff still go the extra mile to give students the bes experience possible. “I remember teaching with a box of chalk on a blackboard”, remembers Geoff, “when it was compulsory for all teaching staff to wear a Tweed jacket for teaching!”

Seeing students’ progress through College and achieve their dreams was fantastic to see, and Goeff particularly enjoyed seeing them graduate from college, start their own families and then teach their children who came to Bicton College. Geoff stated “I always enjoyed being told that I had taught a student’s mum or dad, it was very rewarding to have been remembered through the generations!”

“Everyday has been a highlight throughout my time working at Bicton, and I have enjoyed working with people rather than working for people. I would recommend Bicton College to anyone considering expanding their knowledge and passion there.” Geoff concluded.

Bicton College feel very lucky to have had 45 years of service from Geoff, and wish him all the best for the future.
