The success and the achievements of this year’s students at Cornwall College Saltash have been celebrated at their Student Excellence Awards Ceremony. The special event saw students presented with a prize for the recognition of their hard work; watched by an audience of friends, family, lecturers and businesses.
The evening was opened by Head of College, Margaret Butfield, who spoke about the highlights of the College over the last 12 months and the exciting developments going forward including the opening of the new on site construction training centre in September. The Cornwall College Group Director, Sally Foard, and curriculum areas then went on to present the winners of the award for each department.
Level 2 Beauty Therapy student, Vanessa Millard, said: “It’s been an amazing ceremony. I have been at the college for three years now and the support the College has given me due to my dyslexia has been fantastic. We’ve got the awards, but if it wasn’t for the tutors we wouldn’t have got as far as we have, or be standing here today receiving awards. I’m looking forward to coming back in September to do my Level 2 in Nails. I just can’t stay away!”
Saltash Mayor, Hilary Frank, said: “It has been a really inspirational evening. It’s clear that a lot of people have worked really hard to be here, from students, staff to those who organised the evening. There was a real and very moving atmosphere in the room and it was so inspiring to see the students receive their awards from their very proud tutors.”
Head of College, Margaret Butfield, said: “This was the first time we have held an interdepartmental celebration of student excellence, sponsored by high profile local and national businesses in recognition of high standards, reflecting industry needs in line with our focus of making learning work. It was a fabulous evening meeting parents and employers who have ensured our learners received the best possible support in order to achieve their personal career pathway. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our team for all their hard work this year and for ensuring our learners achieve their qualifications at the same time as preparing for our exciting new courses next year.”
