Cornwall College Saltash professional cookery students impress at Plymouth Sea Food Festival

Professional Cookery students from Cornwall College Saltash impressed the organisers at Plymouth Sea Food Festival last weekend after assisting a host of guest chefs with preparing, cleaning, cooking and demoing their culinary skills on the main stage.

Celebrity local chef, Jaques Marchell, said: “The Cornwall College Saltash students who helped at the sea food festival last weekend were fantastic. I have been working with the catering team at the college for about four years now, and the students always have a great attitude.”

Advanced Technical Diploma in Professional Cookery student, Corey McNeil, said: “The Plymouth Sea Food Festival was a tremendous experience. Assisting well known chefs really boosted my confidence and experience within the industry which will help with future employment. I am really enjoying this course so far, it is giving me the opportunity to enhance the skills I have already learnt.”

Team Lead for Hospitality and Professional Cookery at Cornwall College Saltash, Chris Penk, said: “This event allowed students not only to gain hands on experience working with fresh fish, but also allowed them to work with some of the top chefs in our region. The feedback from employers and organisers was fantastic going as far to say without the support of the students the event wouldn’t have been such a success. “

Events Assistant at Plymouth City Council, Steven Donald, said: “I would like to personally thank Chris Penk, Lesley Retallack and their team from Cornwall College Saltash for all their support at the Plymouth Seafood Festival. The students seemed to really enjoy the experience and they were a great asset to the event. I look forward to working with the college again at future events.”
