Film crews have descended on Cornwall College Saltash over the summer, for a new TV series to be screened on SKY1. Bandit Television, the company behind the new drama starring Dawn French called Delicious, have used the professional catering facilities as a backdrop.
Production Coordinator for Bandit Television, Greg Harris, said: “We forged a great relationship with Cornwall College Saltash over the course of the filming. They were kind enough to allow us to use their teaching facilities for our food preparation which was essential to our production. In return we were able to offer some of the students the opportunity to visit us on set to see how the filming process works. The college staff went over and above the call of duty to help us out and with most of our locations dotted around South-East Cornwall, the location of the College provided a very handy base.”
The four part drama set in the stunning Cornish countryside is a surprising and compelling story of love, heartbreak, food and female friendship.
Advanced Technical Diploma in Professional Cookery student, Corey McNeil, said: “It was a unique experience going on set and watching the filming, a completely different world! It was really inspiring to work with the lady who had also set the food for scenes in Downton Abbey, she spoke to us about how she has achieved so much. I love the course, we are really lucky to have these opportunities to enhance the skills we are learning in the classroom.”
Team Lead for Hospitality and Professional Cookery at Cornwall College Saltash, Chris Penk, said: “This opportunity offered an insight for both students and staff to learn about a different avenue into industry. It was fantastic for our students to visit the filming set during a food scene, they were able to be hands on and set the food ready for the scene giving them a great link between training and industry. This opportunity allowed the College to further develop the employability programme which is mapped into our curriculum.”
