Cornwall College and The WRIGHT Foundation are joining forces to deliver a GP Exercise Referral qualification, for existing fitness professionals who wish to learn how to provide assistance/advice and also how to design exercise regimes for people with certain medical conditions.
The Level 3 Exercise Referral programme is taught by professional trainers from the UK’s leading provider of specialist courses, in conjunction with both medical and fitness experts. The WRIGHT Foundation’s philosophy is to provide exceptional training to allow leisure professionals to succeed, excel and flourish, while allowing them to offer complete physical, mental and social well-being to patients.
The 5 day course which will take place between 12th & 16th December at Cornwall College Camborne, will cover a wide variety of medical topics and will also provide a thorough understanding of the setting up, development and management of a successful GP exercise referral scheme.
Curriculum Lead for Sport at The Cornwall College Group, Kym O’Mara, said: “We are delighted to be working with The WRIGHT Foundation offering such a recognised and much needed referral course. This really will give all qualified fitness professionals in the region, the opportunity to enhance their skills and knowledge to provide much needed advice on how to improve patient’s lives through exercise.”
The course which is endorsed by Skills Active and the Register of Exercise Professionals, leads to a VTCT certification. Those taking part will have a variety of learning outcomes including the aetiology and pathology of common conditions like; coronary heart disease, respiratory disease, diabetes and mental health issues, enabling participants to produce effective relevant exercise plans.
Kym concluded, “We hope that by hosting this course it will encourage participants to take part in further specialist courses coming to Cornwall College, to allow our local professionals to upskill and enhance their own service offering.
