The man who became Britain’s first poet to gain a £1 million record deal, Murray Lachlan-young, has spent a day delivering an inspiring workshop for staff and students at the Eden Project.  Murray has won numerous awards in the Radio Industry and his accolades include writing the poem for the funeral of the British Astronomer, Sir Patrick Moore.

The workshop brought together students on the FdA in Contemporary Storytelling and Performance and Eden’s story tellers, to help develop their creative writing and to improve their performances.

The event was organised by the Programme Lead for the FdA Contemporary Storytelling and Performance, Sophia Fiol, she said: “Murray Lachlan-Young delivered an amazing workshop exploring approaches to Creative writing and Storytelling. Our students joined with the Eden Storytelling team for a valuable experience, allowing them to work directly with an industry professional.

“The best bit was Murray provided an honest and insightful representation of the Performance Industry, whilst creating an accessible environment in which he challenged and developed the participants’ skills.  Excellent day had by all!”

Delivered in partnership with the Eden Project, FdA Contemporary Storytelling and Performance is a skills based course that provides the knowledge and practical expertise needed for success in the performing arts industry. With the incorporation of Eden’s ethos this course focuses on developing performance and storytelling skills within a world class visitor attraction.

The students have also been finding out about life on CBeebies, with a Q&A session with Andy Day (aka Dino Andy).  The star of programs such as Andy’s Wild Adventures was at Eden and entertaining children with his ‘Dino Rap’ show.

Sofia continued: “After giving his ALL to a full Biome of tiny fans, Andy spared some of his precious time to chat with us and talk about his own creative journey. What a great guy; a wonderful example of ‘The way to do it!’ So much learnt in a short space of time.”
