A former student dancer from Cornwall College is head-over-heels to have landed a major part in an exciting new revamp of dance production ‘Enter Achilles’.

Tom Davis Dunn is now performing in the reworking of this landmark physical-theatre production at the Sadler’s Wells Theatre in London, widely regarded as one of the top dance venues in the world.

Twenty-five-year-old Tom, who grew up in West Looe, began his journey as a dancer with Altitude Dance Company at Cornwall College St Austell.

Tom described attending Cornwall College St Austell as “the turning point for me to pursue a career in contemporary dance.”

Tom continued: “It ignited a determination within myself to push for what was once just a hobby I loved and turn that into a way of life which I can now proudly say is my career as a freelance dance artist.”

‘Enter Achilles’, the highly acclaimed production that was first staged in 1995, has been recently reworked by legendary dance director Lloyd Newson of DV8 Physical Theatre.

Presented in collaboration with Rambert Dance Company, the production is an exploration of what constitutes masculinity within the backdrop of British pub culture. The original run toured 18 countries and was made into a TV film winning many accolades including an International Emmy and Prix Italia.

According to Team Lead Jess Leonard, from the College’s Creative Academy, Tom’s success is down to his “hard work, determination and training.”

Jess said: “I am so incredibly proud of Tom’s journey and the success he’s had in the contemporary dance industry. He was a pleasure to teach and showed both passion and resilience in his training with us.”

“Tom is now working with some prolific choreographers and artistic directors and I’m really excited to see him in his latest tour with Rambert and DV8. He’s a testament to the success you can find in a career you love,” Jess continued.

Altitude Dance Training at Cornwall College St Austell is part of the Creative Academy, a new industry-aligned learning environment in St Austell offering a range of courses including performing arts, dance, acting, creative & commercial photography, media & film, games & animation and art & design.
