A former Cornwall College student has been asked to feature as an artist of the day on the world’s biggest online gallery. Joanne Reed, who now works out of the studio space at Krowji, has been selected as an “Artist of the day” on Saatchi Art, which means her work will be seen by thousands of people around the world.
Saatchi Art is the world’s leading online gallery, connecting people with art and artists they love. The website offers an unparalleled selection of paintings, drawings, sculpture and photography in a range of prices, and it provides artists from around the world with an expertly curated environment in which to exhibit and sell their work.
Team Lead for HE Visual Art at Cornwall College Camborne, Jamie Hanson, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for Joanne and I am delighted that she has been offered this chance to showcase her work to potential clients around the world. Saatchi Art is a prestigious art website and one of the most popular market places; this could really open some doors for her.”
Joanne had to complete a profile page about herself, her work and upload some of the paintings that she wanted to sell, ahead of her inclusion as artist of the day.
Joanne said: “It’s great for me to have my work featured with Saatchi online ,there are over 40,000 artists on there from all over the world and you do wonder how anyone will get to see your paintings, but being promoted by them has made a big difference to the amount of people viewing my work. I have already sold one of my paintings through Saatchi’s, to a client in the United States.”
Jo is currently preparing a selection of work, along with some other painters from the Krowji Studios in Redruth, for an exhibition at ‘Beside the Wave’ in London.
“The course made a massive difference to my work, it gave me the time and space to really explore my potential as an artist and it really increased my confidence. It also highlighted to me that my skills can be used by other industries and I am working on a set of packaging designs for a new company.”
Jamie concluded: “Joanne is a fantastic artist and one that we continue to work with, now as a painting lecturer, on our degree level course. The art courses offered by Cornwall College not only nurture peoples talent, but we also prepare them for the business world.”
