Two Level 2 carpentry students at Cornwall College Saltash have undertaken 40 hours of work experience during half-term week. The students were tasked with turning a large classroom into a new office and separate classroom.
Student, Sam Bawden, said: “It has been a great experience working on this project to create a new office space. My tutor gave me the opportunity to undertake this work experience and I’m really glad I did. I’ve learnt how to take down a metal stud and put up a wooden one.”
Carpentry lecturer, Roger Edgecombe, said: “The students have done a fantastic job. They have used all the core customer care skills ensuring the Head of College was happy their work was meeting requirements throughout the week. There was a change of plan during the week and they adapted very well to this. It is great for our students to put into place the theory they learn in the classroom.”
Head of College, Margaret Butfield, said: “The transition of the classroom to incorporate a separate office space during the week has been brilliant. The students have completed the work to a high standard and their attitude was very professional.”
