A former Cornwall College student has swapped the beaches of Cornwall, for a life at sea, working on board one of the most luxurious cruise liners in the world.  Emma Morgan, who comes from Falmouth, studied a BTEC Diploma in travel and tourism at Cornwall College Camborne and now works as a Customer Services Agent on board the Regal Princess.

Emma is also one of the crew members who is being featured in a new documentary being screened on ITV, based on board the luxury liner.  ‘The Cruise’ will follow the lives of the crew and guests as the 3,560-passenger ship sails through northern Europe and Russia, with the first episode being screened on Friday 18th March.

Emma said: “While studying at Cornwall College I knew that I wanted to end up working for a major cruise liner and here I am.  I’ve been with Princess Cruises for three years now and my main duties include arranging weddings, corporate events and ensuring that our passengers receive the very best levels of customer service.”

Travel and Tourism courses at Cornwall College offer students a wide variety of skills, practical experience and introductions to local and national employers.  Students take part in some very high profile events like the Tall Ships Regatta and gain valuable knowledge of the industry.

Emma continued: “The course at college taught me the key elements of good Customer Service and industry knowledge, as well as how to deal with challenging and demanding work situations.  My studies have enabled me to develop a good set of communication and collaborative skills that I adapt to the variety of customers that I support.  I would sincerely recommend anyone interested in a career at sea or in resort management to consider the courses at Cornwall College.”

Current students say they are looking forward to seeing Emma on the TV programme and staff believe Emma will be a great role model for current and future students.  Team Lead for Travel & Tourism at Cornwall College, Suzette Sadler, said: “We are delighted that Emma has had such a successful career both in the local tourism industry in Cornwall and with Princess Cruises; we can’t wait to see the documentary.

“Also, this is a very exciting time for our current students as a number have recently gained employment overseas in varied positions such as a Flotilla Sailing Host in Croatia, a Club18-30 Holiday Representative in Crete and an Activity Leader in Majorca. Other students have gained positions as cabin crew with Jet2, one of our course endorsers, and at Heathrow Airport with British Airways. We are currently recruiting onto the Level 2 and Level 3 Diplomas so these amazing opportunities are open to all new potential students.”
